FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes! All GridKit tools are completely free to use. No signup required, no API keys, no usage limits. We believe utility professionals should have easy access to the data they need.

Do I need to sign up?

No signup required. Just install the tool and start using it.

Is my data private?

GridKit tools query public data sources (ISO OASIS feeds, EIA, OpenEI, etc.) and don't store any of your queries or data. The tools run locally on your machine via npx or Docker.

Can I request a new tool?

Absolutely! We're always looking to expand GridKit based on user needs. Email us at hello@saralsystems.co with your tool suggestion.

Who built this?

GridKit is built by Saral Systems, an energy consulting company focused on making grid data more accessible. We work with utilities, grid operators, and energy companies across the US and India.

What data sources do you use?

GridKit tools aggregate data from official sources including:

  • ISO OASIS feeds: CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, NYISO, SPP, ISO-NE
  • EIA Open Data API: Generation, consumption, prices, emissions
  • OpenEI: Utility rate database
  • NREL: PVWatts solar estimates
  • WattTime/EPA eGRID: Carbon intensity data
  • How current is the data?

It depends on the tool and data source:

  • LMP prices: Real-time, updates every 5 minutes
  • Carbon intensity: Real-time, updates every 5 minutes
  • EIA data: Varies by series (hourly demand to annual summaries)
  • Tariff data: Updated as utilities file new rates
  • Something isn't working. How do I get help?

Email us at hello@saralsystems.co with details about what you're trying to do and what's not working. We typically respond within 24 hours.
